Bio

Dr. Márta Lépes was born in Germany and her Hungarian family emigrated to the USA when she was a child. Growing up in a forest there were numerous animals running in and out of the house, raccoons, chipmunks, an assortment of pet birds, an opossum and a 14 year old hen. A great horned owl hooted duets with her father. No one was surprised when she decided to become a veterinarian.

She graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the Ohio State University. After practicing for a few years in Hawaii she pursued marine animal medicine at Marineland of New Zealand and Galanggang Samudra Ancol in Jakarta.

On returning to Hawaii she opened the Hilo Veterinary Clinic, a companion animal practice, which she owned for 29 years. She was also a zoo consultant for the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo. The Hawaii Volcano National Park used her services to treat injured endangered nene geese. And naturally her home was always full of rescued dogs, cats and birds. Presently she has a small house call practice for cats.

She lives on Kilauea volcano, surrounded by lush rainforest and gardens. She is owned by two cats, Zsazsa and Obake. She loves traveling throughout the world and her interests also include hiking, running, gardening, reading and watching old movies. Currently she is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Hawaii and she is certified by the American Red Cross for first aid, CPR and AED. She is also certified by the University of Hawaii as a Master Gardener.

Dr. Lépes is very excited and committed to helping pets and their owners with her international pet companion service.
